Late last summer my pastor at my church asked me to install a system of DVD recorder to the services registered. I thought this is easy, but there was a setback, also wanted to be able to transfer VHS recordings prior service, as well as DVD.
In the past, this meant having to install a capture card with RCA or component inputs to the computer and using software that captures and re-encode the video into DVD format. It was a real pain and took several hours to perform. Today things are much easier. We now have the external hardware devices that will not only make the capture, but also to conversion in real time as your streaming to your computer.
The device that was settled on ADS Technologies DVD Xpress DX2. This device has RCA component, and S-Video. It connects to the PC via a USB port and is detected by Windows XP as a capture device. The drivers are easy to install and charge the device drivers without problems.
Now here is the sweet part about the DVD Xpress DX2 ADS software suite that comes with integrates with Ulead DVD Movie Factory, which is included with the software package. So instead of being a 2 step process of capturing and recording of a DVD that can now be done directly in one fell swoop.
Of course, the captured video can be saved to disk for later APC handling and transfer to other devices like the Sony PSP or Apple iPod Video. Software that comes with the device will record directly to DVD (MPEG-2), SVCD, VCD (MPEG-1), MPEG-4, and DivX, as well as the PSP and iPod formats.
I highly recommend this device for those who want to transfer your old VHS tapes to DVD and for those who want to create your own video for the PSP and iPod. This system of transfer of video is the absolute IÂ've found. Our church loves because with just a few mouse clicks even a novice computer burning DVDs now.
