When you are renting property, there always comes a nasty moment when you leave and you expect to get your deposit back. In the past, I lost part of my deposit by simply not clean properly. The agency fee for cleaning, often be much larger than cleaning it, or even even get a cleaning company to clean for you.
If you are cleaning the apartment or house to get some rubber gloves and cleaning products properly. They do not have to be expensive, but you will save much time and gloves will stop their hands being damaged by all the cleaning products. Get a radio or load up your iPod with some fast music to keep you going through the hassle to go.
Some areas of the property may have been dirty before you Unless you moved in brought this to the leasing agent at the time, or on the inventory paperwork done when you moved in, you stuck with the cleaning even though it is not your fault. This sucks, but if you can not prove you did not do that, you're the one that will start hit with the charge for the screening, unless you clean it yourself.
When cleaning, do not forget these important areas:
Kitchen – Clean the refrigerator and freezer. You may need to defrost the freezer, if it has iced up (since I was charged for leaving things in a freezer, and it was a pea that had few caught in the ice.) When you defrost the freezer (eg, disconnect it), when the ice melts it will likely flood on your kitchen floor to put some towels down to absorb the water up, and a bowl of shelter where it is leaking, if you can.
If you've made it very late and the freezer will not defrost quickly boil the kettle and put water in a bowl, place the bowl in the freezer. If you're really desperate, you can use a hair dryer to heat ice. Whatever you do, do not let the hair dryer resting on the ice, or you'll have a lot to explain when the mixture of water and electricity and cause a problem more than one ice cream freezer!
Make sure the area around the bin is clean, and if the position belongs to the property, clean it well. This may be disgusting, but it is the kind of thing that is checked and if not clean, there is a little of your money.
Bath – Properly clean the bathroom, sinks, tiles and flooring. If the grout between the plates is dirty try to get hold of a specialist bathroom grout clean. They contain bleach extra-strong and you just squirt it on the grout and clean it a few minutes later, it saves a lot of rubbing. You may want to clean the bathroom past so you can throw away the cloth after cleaning.
No forget to clean the candles. This can be severe, depending on the amount of hair down there, but it'll only take a minute or two. Think of the money you're saving as you do to keep your mind off what you're doing.
When cleaning the rooms generally make sure the wood around the doors, skirtings and frames the windows are clean. Clean the windows and dry them off with a dry cloth or a piece of paper towel so as not to smudge again when the water dries on them.
Make sure that there is no residue blutack or tape on the walls if you had posters up. If you put nails in the wall to handle frames, you may need remove them and fill the holes with a small charge, depending on what your contract says. Sometimes you can get away with leaving the picture hooks there, but it can be risky as some leasing agents do not like it, even if they look smart.
Once the cleaning is done, get a friend to have a check quick, and make them be honest. If you leave a place gets too dirty, you may think it is great looking, because it is much better than normal, but he still can look at a dirty eye out.
In the UK, I was invited to be on the property when the inspection post of accommodation is made. It is an idea very good to be there when someone from the rental location to check is the place – I always have my deposit back in full when I was there for verification. Discovered while you are friendly, the check person is happy to let him fix small problems that can spot them before you mark as a problem.
If there is damage to a wall or floor can be placed on general wear and tear, especially if it looks like you took care of the rest of the property and kept clean. If minor damage, may be worth, not pointing it out and see if the inspector notices it at all. What may seem like a big problem for you may just be a piece little wear to them.
However, if you break something, it pays to come clean about it instead of waiting to be discovered. You may be able to replace it with something similar instead of having the burden out of your deposit.
If you are busy and can not afford the time for cleaning, get some quotes from local cleaning companies to do the cleaning for you. If you use one, keep the receipt and show it to leave the agency. It may help to reassure them you handled the property.
Good luck with your cleaning!
