Buying new TV. Confused if I need to get a digital or analog and pick up the box in February 2009.?
We need a new TV for our living room. Once the signs are going to be in DIGITAL in 2009, is a good idea to get an analog set, because a lot of places are getting rid of them? or go with a digital to a higher price. We already have two analog sets, it would have to have a box digital to analog anyway. We Cable TV, but do not have a cable box, but still get all the channels we need. We do not have a need to 'rent' a box the cable company only for the HD or premium channels. It does not matter to us time to get a tube or plasma or whatever … are on a fixed income and just want things the way it is now, but does not want a new TV that is useless in February 2009. Please help if you have insite on this. Thanks
Its not TV will be useless in 2009. You will be able to buy the converters for each TV (if you have VCRs or DVD recorders, they will need converters too) that you are using to on television. In January, you can apply for two government coupons good for $ 40 each out of two converters that will cost about $ 60 each. Anything above two, you will have to pay full price. If your TV is cable, the FCC has just announced a rule that cable companies should have any of their sites over the air programming in analog form, or the provision of converters by 2012. However, they do not have to continue to provide any of the other analog programming that may be receiving, like Discovery, TLC etc. What the cable companies will choose to do is known, but it is likely that they will drop the additional analog programming. If you buy a digital TV, you will have a tuner ATSC allow you to get over the air digital TV. If you get one with a QAM tuner, youy'll be able to get any of the cable companies do not yoiur premium digital programming without a cable box. You will also have an NTSC tuner that brings about the air conditioning and cable TV analog. The NTSC and ATSC is the standard-QAM is not-not all TVs have. Good luck!
