How do I mount a TV over a fireplace?
I would like to start a new Plasma TV / LCD / DLP. However, our house was built with an open space above our fireplace for a TV, but the space is not large enough to hold a TV much larger than the new TVs are wider. How could I go about installing a new TV in this space?
You usually only need one foot of about 1 by 1 space for the feet to mount the mounting hardware for a flat screen television, so you should be able to go as big as your wall can handle. For best results, however, you'll need at least two screws to work off, and given its space over the fireplace you should be able to remove the sheetrock and install two vertical poles you can mount the hardware. LCDs are best for these applications is uncertain as they are generally much lighter in weight. If in doubt always consult a professional otherwise your television will collapse at the head of some little tike. Good luck!
