The high performance 55-inch Samsung UN55B8000 is one the most talked about Samsung LCD HDTV models, not only because of its price – $ 2500 to $ 3500 – but also because is at the top of the border line of Samsung TVs with LED lighting. But what exactly is an edge-lit HDTV?
To understand the concept of an edge-lit HDTV, first, you have to know how an LED works with HDTV. While a normal LCD TV uses a single fluorescent lamp as a backlight, an LED illuminated LCD TV uses hundreds of small bulbs (called light emitting diodes, or LEDs) covering the back of the screen. Because of this, LED-based TVs are brighter and can produce more vivid, especially the blacks deeper – a result of the fact that a group of LEDs can be completely turned off as part of a lamp fluorescent can be dimmed. LEDs also consume less energy, but can last much longer.
Because of this, LED-lit HDTVs are becoming popular. However, most of them are direct access, which means that the LEDs cover the entire panel and project the light forward. Furthermore, Samsung is UN55B8000 a lighter, which means LEDs are just the top and bottom of the panel, projecting light toward the center, where one plate reflects light guide it forward and focuses accordingly.

Edge-lit TV has disadvantages, too, though, as the heat generated by the frame – especially the top and bottom – and the problems that the uniformity of the screen. Samsung claims to have solved those problems, though, in fact, is a part UN55B8000 efficient, with the question of uniformity of the screen appears only during dark scenes, and even then it is difficult to discern.
Aside from the fact that it is an edge illuminated HDTV, the Samsung UN55B8000 is an excellent HDTV for other reasons, such as its processor 240Hz, resulting in crisp, clear images, even during the scenes fast-moving and the exact colors that help create an outstanding image quality. It comes with interactive features, as well as an extensive library of built-in content and Yahoo widgets to keep you informed about the latest updates on weather, news and stock market. Connectivity, although it is not his strong point, is very good, too, with four HDMI inputs, a PC input and two USB ports to name a few.
Everywhere UN55B8000 Samsung is a major purchase, or is, if you can afford it. After all, there is only one edge-lit LED LCD HDTV. With an appealing design, a lot of great features and stunning images, which might as well be the best TV from Samsung LED yet.
