External looks are decidedly deceiving when you are standing on the showroom floor looking at the two side by side. Both TVs are flat and thin, but they use different engineering to bring you the same results.

How does a Plasma TV

Plasma TV engineering use the same basic technology as a fluorescent lamp. The screen is made of cells. In each cell two glass panels are set, and a thin gap filled with neon-xenon gas and then sealed in the plasma when it is produced. This gas is then electrically charged at specific intervals when the Plasma TV is turned on. The electrically charged gas then moves through matches the red, green and blue (A match is any material that, when exposed to radiation, emits visible light), creating a TV picture. These cells of phosphorus (red, green, blue and phosphorus) are called pixels.

Although the technology of plasma TVs eliminate the need for the bulky picture tube and electron beam scanning of traditional televisions, because it still uses the burning of phosphors to generate an image, Plasma televisions still suffer some of the drawbacks of traditional televisions, such as heat generation and screen burn of static images.

As an LCD TV Works

LCD TVs use a different technology.

LCD panels are made of two sheets of clear material, then, are polarized, and glued. One of the layers is coated with a specific chemical compound that contains the liquid crystal separately. An electrical charge is then passed through the crystals, allowing the crystals light, either pass or block light and it creates its image.

LCD crystals do not produce light on their own, so a light source, much like light lighting is required for the LCD to produce a visible image.

Unlike old-style TV or a Plasma TV, no phosphors that have to be energized, it takes less energy and less heat is generated from a plasma TV or old CRT style. Moreover, there is no radiation emitted from the LCD screen.

Plasma vs LCD

Plasma LCD on ADVANTAGES:

1. The availability of larger screens.
2. Black deeper for a better relationship contrast.
3. Color saturation and brighter colors.
4. Good motion tracking, very little or no motion lag especially with fast moving images.

The disadvantages of Plasma vs LCD include:

1. Plasma TVs are more susceptible to burn-in of static images. It's similar to when you looks at a bright light and then close your eyes and you can still see the light. He leaves, but it can be a pain in the ass.
2. Plasma TVs create more heat than LCDs, because of the light required for the pebbles to create images.
3. It works well at high altitudes.
4. Shorter life screen (about 30,000 hours, equivalent to 8 hours to see a day to 9 years). The good news is, life expectancy is improving the screen as high as 60,000 hours because of improvements.

LCD Advantages of plasma are:

1. No burn-in of static images.
2. Uses less energy to operate at a temperature Cooler.
3. Smoothly at higher altitudes use.
4. There is an increased image brightness.
5. Longer lifespan of the screen (about 60,000 hours – more likely that everything you need do is replace the light source, not the whole thing).
6. Weight less than a Plasma TV so it's easier to mount on a wall.

DISADVANTAGES LCD TV vs. Plasma include:

1. Less than one side, you do not get the deep blacks of a plasma for the sharp image.
2. No track and the movement (fast-moving objects can be a little nervous) – But it's getting better with the new design of 120Hz screen refresh rates on high-end LCDs.
3. Hard to find the larger screen sizes. But they are beginning to appear on the market with higher prices.
4. LCD TVs generally cost more same size Plasma TV, however the price of LCD is dropping due to increased production.
