What do these numbers mean? Well, the number of 1080p (ie, part 1080) refers to the number of horizontal lines that form the image you see on your HD TV. High-Definition TV comes in two flavors, 720 or 1080. So that means your TV has 720 lines or 1080 lines that form the image that you really Watch. Standard-definition television is only about 575 lines. So you can see, with high definition, you have much more horizontal lines making up an image, giving a clearer picture.
So what the little "i" or "p" after our number mean? This refers to image you see is interlaced or progressively scanned. Entanglement is basically a method of creating an image, showing it in two halves, shone so close together that the eye can not say that there were 2 files so that you are fooled into thinking it's an image. This is great because it means that we save bandwidth for transmission when a show. Thus, the "i" obviously refer to an interlaced image. The "p" refers to progressive scan. This means that each line of an image is displayed or drawn on your screen in sequence.
So what is the best? 1080p or 1080i? Well, 1080p is considered the best in high-definition TV viewing because it is a softer than 1080i.
