Use of plasma flat-screen TVs more energy?
Could this be one reason for the higher electricity bill? Just curious. Blue.bso: We have a 60-inch plasma in the living room, and a 42-inch in the room. The living room is seen more often. WOW … I do had no idea that they consume much energy. Thank you so much for your answer.
It depends, is your TV on 24 / 7? If so, then I would say, "yes." Plasma TV in general use about 200W to 290W power, for 32 "to 42", range, while their counterparts LCD 100W to 180W for the use same range. The big difference between plasma and LCD, not the contrast ratio, but the rate of brightness. Plasma are usually in the 500 <cd / m2 brightness of standards, while in the same range of LCD are under> 460. If your TV is in a lighted room, then plasma is the way to go, if you watch TV night after the LCD is the way to go. A hair dryer is 900-1800W, a home clothes dryer to the basement (electric) 1100W is average. The toaster is 1000W, an electric oven is 1500W average. TV So as you watch? PS LCD's have longer life than plasma panel that, in general, but the Panasonic just launched a new line of plasmas that say they have 80 + years of life of the panel, with the largest TV contract coming into 108 "(9 feet). woo hoo!
