Consumer Reports released a report stating that the Plasma TV and LCD's require very few repairs during the first 3 years. Consumers who buy the extended warranty Plasma or LCD TV this year will be wasting your money. It is very unlikely that anything will happen in the first three years! This is great news for people who are about to buy these items for Christmas gifts.
TV, Plasma and LCD have a rate of 3%, according to Consumer Reports repair Annual Product Reliability Survey for December. Moreover, Rear-projection TV were found to have a much higher rate of compensation for LCD or Plasma TV's.
Panasonic's 50-inch TH-50PZ700U Plasma TV was appointed Consumer Reports' panel best plan yet tested. Overall, Panasonic flat-panel TV had a repair rate of 2%.
Among those that needed repair, the average cost was $ 264 on LCD and Plasma TV $ 395.
If you insist on buying the extended warranty on your new LCD or Plasma TV to make sure that there is more than 15% of the total cost of the TV. Some retailers push you to buy it, but remember that the average price for a repair would be much less in some cases than the extended warranty.
Flat Panel HDTV were at the top of most peoples wish lists this Christmas. It was followed closely by a Notebook with Windows and a digital camera.
Remember, before buying a big ticket item like a TV, read reviews first line. Just because the sales person says it is a good TV does not really mean it.
