plasma tv consumption

The apparent war between plasma and LCD has been raging for some time. Traditionally, models of plasma owners have offered an impressive array technologies designed to provide a viewing experience of high quality, usually, and that the format of Liquid Crystal Display. The bone of contention for most potential buyers is the price; screen plasma TV are usually associated with premium price tags.

For most fans screen TV is the most important factor when considering which TV to buy. However, with the price of big-screen models running on four numbers, many users had to make do with flat-screen televisions, which, in their eyes at least, was a version of "cheaper". The advent of technologies such as BRAVIA Engine Sony and Philips Ambilight has leveled the playing field and helped to make significant advances on the sale of plasma TVs.

LCD TV's and plasmas work using different technologies deliver the same display purposes. LCD TVs are built around the crystal cells to tighten and relax when an electric current is applied them. A lighting system saturates the cells and, as they rotate, the colors are not required filtered, leaving only the cells of the desired color in place. Screens plasma also operate using millions of pixels. The difference is that, when activated, the cells release gases that produce a specific color, the red stripes, blue and green that are placed inside the pixels.

Recent developments in LCD technology have enabled manufacturers to build LCD screens that offer quality viewing comparable to Plasma TVs. In particular, the handling of fast moving action was a problem, many LCD TVs to leave an image on the right (usually known as 'blur'). Plasma screens had the upper hand in this case since each pixel is individually enabled. Another area where plasmas led the way was the angle of view as they are able to produce clear images at extreme angles. LCD's have made major strides in this area with many manufacturers citing viewing angles in the region of 178 degrees, while maintaining vivid picture quality.

The main drawback with plasma is the weight and thick fabrics making them heavier and therefore more difficult to mount on the wall.

The latest developments in LED technology has delivered to the LCD manufacturing process traditional. Most TV manufacturers can use an LED backlight instead of the standard Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (CCFL LCD) used in LCD TVs. The LED backlight has a number of advantages on regular TVs CCFL backlight indcluding a lower power consumption and higher levels of brightness. LED backlit LCD TV's usually have a longer time than their counterparts LCD and are more efficient than plasma screens. Moreover, the LED cells can be switched on and off more quickly than traditional LCDs that allows it to produce both higher production of light, exceptionally high contrast ratios and a greater range of blacks (Sony cited the model 40ZX1 as having a contrast ratio Dynamic 2,000,000:1).

Considering the rate of development is easy to understand why LCD is easy to replace as a Plasma Display choice for consumers. It is true that the price of the TV's LED is still relatively high however, as manufacturers begin to see financial returns on investments, prices will fall. Plasma TV will be with us much longer?
