If you're in the market for a new plasma and is likely to be looked at several models and may well be confused by all different brands and models. I'll try to break the fundamental differences between the models series of 1080p plasma Panasonic Viera.

Let the model numbers. A typical model is Panasonic Viera Plasma TH-xxPZ80U. There are several things looking to understand the model number.

1. TH-xxPZ80U – The XX represents TV size (eg 50PZ80U is a 50 "model). Sizes range from less than 42 inches and go up to 65 inches above the line model.

2. TH-xxPZ80U – The PZ denotes a 1080p model. Panasonic also offers a 720p model, but is indicated by a PX.

3. TH-xxPZ80U – Here's where it starts to be a little confused. These indicate the individual attributes and feature sets of each model with a 80U well, better 85u 800U better and better (at least until they reach a better model) 850U.

So lets dig a little further and check the attributes and characteristics of different models.

80U – This is the basic model. Of course, these are the least expensive models and include all basic elements giving TVs 1080p plasma screen from Panasonic and a great reputation. They come with a 20000:1 contrast ratio, 2 speakers and 3 HDMI inputs.

85u – The next step in the model line adds a contrast ratio further, taking it up to 30,000:1 and add an entry for PC connection.

800U – The next step makes several additions as 24p support and an HDMI input and additional certification THX. Other considerations include the addition of 2 additional speakers for more sound quality, even if you connect to your TV via an audio / video, then more then likely not even use their TV speakers. The 800U models also come with a swivel base that can be beneficial for those who do not choose to be assembled in the wall of plasma.

850U – 850U is represented by the top model line ranking by adding shades of color and additional configuration menus Pro and a baseline study.

Hopefully that gives some clarity to the series of 1080p plasma Panasonic Viera. It is safe to have a size and features to suit a wide range of budgets. So if you are watching a new TV for the holiday season or for the digital transition, a plasma from Panasonic can be the right choice for you.
