Who will win the White House? The candidate who wins the wars Communication
Congratulations to all of us! We are almost done with the longest Presidential Season of primaries in history! Finally, after months of political and specialists that we have reached is not just a New Year, we arrived at dawn
of a new president.
Before the Bush-Gore race, the taller candidate had lost only twice in history.
The consequences of a media campaign changed the dynamics of perceived advantage. Being the highest candidate is no longer the statistical advantage that once was the highest since candidate in photos or on TV the difference height is less apparent and often not apparent.
Because I look at the world through a lens of communication, I ask you to come with me, as I look at the primary race through the lens of communication.
I believe I can successfully make the argument that Gore and Kerry lost not by because of their political experience, but because of its low ability to communicate. In 2008, it is not a question of who is the best candidate is, is a matter that the candidate presents himself as the best candidate.
Some may find fault with this hypothesis right off the bat, offering George W as an example of a candidate who does not communicate well. It proves my point.
In this decade, communicating successfully is different than it was for Lincoln and Roosevelt. George W was effective in communication as the common man:
he connected with the public he never met personally as one.
Ten Tips to assist in any debate sound bite, or the interview:
1. Who uses humor and
Humor is a time bomb for any speaker. It is a special dilemma a candidate. If the candidate does not use humor, he or she comes through dour.
Like when Hillary brought SNL debate in Cleveland. If they use humor inappropriately, they may look like the bully or just insensitive. Like when Barack said about Hillary, she was very nice. On the other hand, the fruits of the use of humor are also too tempting to pass up. Like when Reagan said that Mondale would not use age against him.
2. Who is most knowledgeable and self, but not brainy
Nobody liked the smartest boy in class: The boy who knew everything and reminded everyone. We want and need our President to be intelligent, the smartest kid in class. We just do not want him or her to act like it.
3. Who makes me more sympathetic to
One of the reasons why Ronald Reagan was so popular is that voters thought they would like to have a beer with him. A nice guy to spend time with. Although the vast majority of voters would never find it, they thought would like it if they never did. Why do we like some people? Why do we like a little more than we like the others? The factor of attractiveness may be fickle, but true and tried, and it's about the perception of trust.
4. Who says more than the same repetitive mantras
5. Non verbal match the verbal, that is, his face and his words of agreement
During the last campaign, there was a joke that John Kerry's words forgot to tell the guy they were funny. When the face does not match the words, the public believes that the guy not the words. Go to the match between the two to find the applicant credible. Huckabee is good at it.
6. Who is comfortable using gestures
Al Gore's, the Secret Service Sawhorse named due to its use of wood gestures. Look for the candidate who is comfortable using gestures, the candidate who is comfortable in his own skin. Another way to look at it is to look candidates whose gestures are not getting in the way of your message. Bill Clinton was good at the fist-point. Everyone else who tries to not so good.
7. No need be as young as JFK, but can not look dead
Due to the high-definition TV and plasma, we now see candidates closer than ever, more close to what we want to see them. If Hollywood actors are concerned with these close-ups of the 21st century, imagine what they do for 60 years?
8. Candidates that really say something
Voters want to hear substance.
9. Applicants who remain in the message to turn, if not answer real question that was asked and turn to another aspect or theme, they need to do it artistically or the public will not accept it. Look for candidates who actually respond the questions.
10. Who can carry the weight
Both Democratic candidates have adopted the theme in commercial red phone. Although these are serious times, and candidates are talking about serious issues that need to be able to do so with a grace and ease. The presidency itself Presidents ages. We do want to see the very heavy burden, even before its inauguration.
The general election, as a baseball season is long. Although each victory seems do not count on 100 games, never know what will make a difference in the final of the season. So, pay attention to every debate, every soundbite, every interview. You never know what will make a difference at the end of the season.
