Manual Plasma TV: How do you strap your wall to hang the unit?
I recently got a 50 "Plasma TV Panasonic (TH-50PX60U) with a Sanus Flat Panel TV Mount (VMSAs) that tilts, turns, and pans. The instructions for mounting the TV says that the wall must be able to handle 5 times the weight of the plasma TV, plus the weight of Mount Royal. That's about 550 pounds. How in the world can I strengthen my wall safely handle it? We live in an old house with plaster walls and I I would like to hang it above the fireplace. Can you give me some advice? Thank you! First things first, I seriously doubt that the mfg. TV will justify the TV if you hang on a fireplace. I know you see all the pretty pictures on TV of fireplaces, but they can not handle the heat, most have an automatic shut-off when they reach a certain temperature. The construct of the wall around your fireplace may not have wood screws, hopefully not, you should find the pins and the weight you are talking about you will have to beat three nails with the bracket and support that will be poured into beams with at least two 3 screws lag in each stud. The slat wall situations is probably the wooden battens on which the plaster was spread, I saw that the house opened the wall to expose the prisoners and then attached 3 / 4 "plywood to the studs for this, they could screw the mounting bracket to distribute the load on the nails. This plywood could then be finished out to match the wall. Again, carefully consider the mfg. recommendations on fireplaces.
